Grow Your Heart! Heart-Shaped Plants & Flowers for Valentine’s Day

February 4, 2011 By radmegan 15 Comments

I get a lot of inspiration from my garden. I was thinking about how next Monday is St. Valentine’s Day, how I’m watching my sugar and chocolate intake, and how many plants have leaves and flowers that are heart-shaped.
Heart You
These are just a few snapshots of the hearts growing in my garden this year.

If you are looking for an unconventional gift of love this Valentine’s Day, why not give something that will grow?
Two Hearts
Below is a short list of lovely hearts that you might want to ask for at your local nursery, or shop for online if you are just looking to cultivate and share your heart(s) with someone.

  • Dicentra spectabilis (Bleeding hearts)
  • Hoya kerrii (Heart-Shaped Hoya)
  • Anthurium
  • Ceropegia linearis subsp. woodii (Chain of Hearts)
  • Caladium
  • Conophytum quaesitum
  • Alocasia odora (Giant Upright Elephant Ear
  • Aristolochia gigantea

Spikes and Hearts
Hope you enjoy! And happy heart-hunting, growing and sharing!

Plants are an easy and gorgeous way to style up your living space. Adorn your windowsills with succulents, drape vibrant macramé hangers from curtain rails or try something big and bold like the gorgeous fiddle leaf fig.
