In honor of this day, I needle-felted the Lorax atop some Truffula Trees. He speaks for the trees as they have no tongues. He needed a platform, so I gave him one.
(Note that the puffy wool will NOT be used to make a “Thneed” at a later date.)
While my Lorax may look mean, he really is a softie. He just wants his beloved trees to grow tall and strong, and to wish his creator, Dr. Seuss the happiest of birthdays.
The Lorax has always been one of my favorite Sr. Seuss books (along with Horton Hears a Who!). What are your favorites? Share them in the comments! If you, or your kids are unfamiliar with the story of the Lorax, I would strongly encourage you to pick up a copy at the library, or start your own collection of Dr. Seuss classics here:
Happy birthday Dr. Seuss,
Thank you for all of the childhood memories, lessons and inspiration!
xoxo

I love it. I am the Lorax here and I speak for the trees. They are not my trees I am their Lorax. I am their responsible spokes person. I strongly resemble your Lorax except I have long gray hair.

Nice to meet you long-gray Lorax! Thank you for the comment.

Oh my gosh! So cute! My favorite is Horton Hears a Who. “A persons a person no matter how small” That line gives me little goosebumps! Dr. Seuss is the best!
radmegan says
Aw Jess, I know exactly what you mean about Horton. I love the message in that book! Happy Seuss B-Day to you and little Luke! xoxo

So cute! What a great tribute. Will there be any Lorax (Loraxes? Loraxi?) in the shop? I don’t know if I’ve ever actually read the Lorax book – if I did, I don’t remember it. Apparently I need a Seuss refresher!
It’s really hard to pic a favorite. I love Horton of course. But I also remember Theres a Wocket in my Pocket and the Foot Book. Those were good.

Needle-felting is such a perfect thing to represent a Seuss character! They are all so fuzzy already!

Great Job Megan, Of course I want all your felted characters but I guess moms can’t be greedy. I love the little fingers. You captured his personality. Make more.

My friend is interested in me making some of these for her sons birthday, though I am crafty, I don’t have the slightest clue as to needle felting…can you help describe this process to me and where do you get this type of felt?
