"Funny or Die" Commission: Teeny Weeny Kermit

November 24, 2011 By radmegan 5 Comments

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am Thankful for my friends, family and all of the radmegan readers and supporters! (Lets be honest, many of you ARE friends and family- hi mom!) I’m also thankful for the rad opportunities that this blog has afforded me. I’ve met lots of new friends, launched a craft-teaching careers via the Urban Craft Center, went all the way to Austria to record The Art of Craft Photography and Advanced Craft Photography and most recently, was commissioned to make two Kermit the Frogs for a “Funny or Die” video.
I received an email about this commission while driving out of town to go camping in Pismo Beach. The deadline was absurdly short, but the actress who contacted me was so very sweet, and it was a request to make two Kermit the Frogs! Kermit!! You know how I love Kermit! So the second we got home from our trip, I began work on a small, plush Kermit and a flattened or “squashed” Kermit.
First, I needed a pattern or reference photo. I couldn’t find a picture of Kermit in the pose I wanted, so I did my best to sketch out my favorite green frog. Next, I worked for eight solid hours, trying out various materials and eventually (sometime around 2 am) a familiar face started to emerge from the strips of old sweater pieces and piles of felt sheets.
By 7am, my two Kermits were complete. I threw them in a gift bag and ran over to my favorite coffee shop where I was to meet Izabella Miko and deliver the goods.
Needles to say, my fellow frog-lover was thrilled with the results!
Here’s the final video. Please note that this is a Funny or Die video. There are some scenes that may not be super appropriate for ALL Muppet fans… Parental Supervision is strongly advised. ;^)

Please also note, that I am SO happy with the end results. While I was initially horrified when I saw my two Kermits submerged in water, I was so tickled with the way my crafts looked on camera. Funny or Die, feel free to call me ANYTIME for additional props!

Hope you all enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
