Frayed Knot: The Cook’s Knot (For Spitting and Trussing)

October 13, 2010 By radmegan 3 Comments

The Cook's Knot
The Cook’s Knot, or Ring Hitch, is used in conjunction with several skewers to secure an animal over a spit when roasting. This knot, from the Ashley Book of Knots, uses the same basic principle as the Strap Hitch and Bale Sling Hitch and is one of the easiest hitches to loosen.

“A man must be able to cut a knot, for everything cannot be untied.”
Henri Frederic Amiel

JUST realized these were your illustrations, Megan! Que adorable! I thought they were from a book. They should be! :)

I also hope to have an occasion to truss a pig one day.

They sure are! Thanks Lauren! I know a week of illustrated knots isn’t for everyone, but I’ve been having a lot of fun with my little drawings, AND I’m learning to tie knots. Bonus!! :) Thanks for the sweet words. I wish you luck in your pig-trussing quest <3

This is awesome. I was searching the web to see if anyone had learned every knot in Ashley’s Book of Knots when I found this. I think you should do a complete book of illustrations for every knot.
