Photography: Night Writer

September 8, 2010 By radmegan 3 Comments

Writing with light is one of my favorite (outdoor)evening activities. While many artists are pushing the boundaries of night writing, Picasso’s Light Painting series for Life Magazine makes it all look so simple. And really, it is.

You will need:

–

Tripod or flat surface

– (D)SLR camera or a point-and-shoot with “Starry Sky” setting

– Light Source (flashlight etc…)

– Dark Environment

Identify a nifty backdrop, grab your light source, and set your camera to as long an exposure as you like. Results will vary depending on exposure length.

If you are feeling ambitious you might also try recording video of your light writing like this game of Tetris done with skateboards and glow-stick head pieces.
