Travel Craft: 2-in-1 Sunglasses case/Sleeping mask

July 11, 2011 By radmegan 7 Comments

I am a sucker for convertibles. Not car-convertibles necessarily, but the two-in-one space-saving inventions that often sometimes make life easier. When I started thinking about what to pack for my Europe trip for instance, I looked at a wide assortment of “convertible dresses,” so that I could pack fewer items but still get away with LOTS of different looks. While I did buy a “dress” from Victoria’s Secret, I did not end up packing it at all, because thanks to my freakishly long torso, my different looks ranged from “mildly slutty” to “fully-exposed breasts.” The dress ended up functioning (somewhat) better as a shirt for me, but ended up limiting my wardrobe options dramatically*.

What I found I needed DURING my trip that I neglected to pick up beforehand was an eye-mask for airplane-sleeping (and midnight sun-sleeping in Norway!), and a case for my sunglasses. I managed to survive my trip without these items, but decided to whip up a CONVERTIBLE version of my own for my next vacation. Because really, why pack two things when you can pack one?

I fussed around with butcher paper for hours yesterday trying to come up with a pattern. When I finally got the prototype to work, I sewed up my first eye mask/ glasses case!

The outside is made of cotton fabric. It’s lined with a soft fleece so that your glasses stay clean and scratch-free. I also ran elastic through both sides of the mask/case. When acting as a mask, the elastic wraps around your ears comfortably. When you want to use it for your shades, pull the elastic on bot ends, and your glasses are secured inside.

The eye mask and sunglasses case are not meant for simultaneous use, mind you. So if you are sleeping in a hotel in Norway, put your sunglasses on the side-table before popping on your mask. My husband and I both tried out the mask for a little nap yesterday, and it was cool, comfortable, and blocked out all available light! Too bad it didn’t block out our unfortunate Sunday afternoon “bed head.”

This is the fist one made, but now that I’ve figured out my pattern, I plan on making more and putting them in my etsy store! If you want one in a special color, let me know!

* And thanks to my non-Victoria’s Secret body, I wore the same 2 (J Crew) button-up shirts throughout the entire trip. Ha. Oh well.

Wow, thanks! How about an eyeglass case next time? I’ll definitely share this to my wife since we’re planning our next road trip next weekend, and this sunglasses case would be a big help! BTW, the eyemask design looks cute!

Sunglasses case that can turn to sleeping mask? Cool! This idea is really wonderful, especially for people who wears glasses.

I noticed your website’s ranking in google’s search
results is very low. You are loosing a lot of traffic.
You need high authority backlinks to rank in top10. I know – buying them is too expensive.
It is better to own them. I know how to do that, just google
    it:
